Sponsoring Betty for the past years has been an act of faith; one can only imagine who the individual is that you are supporting on the other end. But now it is an act of love. It is amazing how much you can learn in a month’s time, and how you can come to see an individual. It is so difficult to leave Betty, and we have all been carrying on these last couple of days with the weight of farewells on our shoulders. Of course, we are trying to make the most of our time together as well.

Betty is a remarkable human being. Through her short life, she has endured so many heartbreaks and challenges already. Some people would become embittered, but Betty became stronger. She learned to be quiet in order to survive the injustices of growing up in a world where she had little control. Now she is navigating the world with more strength and insight, and finding her voice. We want her to aim high, and we will do what we can to help her. We really feel like we have a daughter now, and will hold hands with her across an ocean and many miles.

We love you, Betty
